So we waited out the Memorial Day traffic and rain I might add and started off Tuesday.....in the rain. we were dry when sleeping but everything was damp and the tent wet when we packed up. So OFF!!!!! We had breakfast in town and watched it drizzle outside.
pretty amazing, all this vegetation on the sand dunes
Then it was back to steep winding roads with, as you can see, little or no shoulder. But the grades weren't too bad and neither was the traffic.
great scenery all along the way
Barb asked about all the things on the sand bar, and I thought at first driftwood, but they were lined up on one corner.....Harbor seals. just laying in the almost sun.
By this time you might notice, the roads are dry. not sunny, but not wet. we had hills and grades to Waldport, but the last 20 miles was relatively flat, and fast.
Bridge approach to Newport. by the time you are down reading today and tomorrow, you will see I couldn't take enough pictures of this...cool bridge
Drying out gear out in the hotel room. Fortunately, enough room to set up tent as it was very wet. Thought was to get late start and only go 25 miles next day. only problem, BIG HUGE storm last night with forecasts to continue with 25 mph winds.
So we took the day off (tough life) and walked across town and over the bridge and went to the aquarium and of course the brewery. So it was a day of cross training. Walking instead of riding and beer instead of wine.
Before we started our walk-about, we were able to fold up our tent and put our gear away as it was dry.As we mindlessly walked across town (mindlessly, something I have been mastering lately) we ran into the Aussies we met at Patricks point state park. Thought they would be a week ahead of us by now. I asked about that, they said they could ride in the rain, but "whats the point?" they were headed away from the brewery, so we parted ways.
