We traveled from Coos Bay to Florence yesterday.  Started out wet, then dried, although no sun.  Also, no pics in the morning, as I didn't want to have the camera out in the rain.  nice ride though, minimal hills ( on a comparative basis).  Went through Oregon dunes national park area.  Sand everywhere.

We were looking at the causeway (fill road over part of the bay on Sat. night and barb wondered how it was built.  I told her the bay was probably very shallow and they just filled it.  she had a hard time thinking the bay was shallow  ......that us until she saw the next days low tide......

Then it was back off to our next days adventure.  Nice rolling hills, most elevation gain about 400 feet.

We stopped in Winchester at a sour dough bakery and had bagel sandwiches.  We met a couple from Salem who had done a lot of biking.  They said they had done Salem to Salem, and also Salem to San Francisco.  They were planning on a trip to San Clemente real soon.

I do believe this is the Umpqua river.  but then I am a man of several beliefs ad yesterday with all its scenery just seemed to pass.

This is definitely not Umpqua, it is a lake south of Florence Tahkenitch, or Siltcoos.

Mile marker 200!  count down to north border, and she just keeps on trucken, without change of batteries!!!!

wonder what the angle of repose of this stuff is  :)

5-27-13 Memorial Day
It started raining at about 1:00 AM and it didn't stop till late morning.  Fortunately, we had not planned on being on the road today, thought we would let the long weekend traffic subside.  Stayed at a Thousand Trail campground, where at least we could go down to the lodge area, get out of the rain and not be confined to our small backpacking tent.
At about 11:30, my cousin Mary and her daughter Marialice showed up.  GREAT!!!!  They drove us into town to get something to eat in a dry establishment.  It was lunch time, but Barb and I hadn't had our morning coffee and pastry,  So these wonderful ladies took us to a coffee shop and patiently sipped their coffee while Barb and I scarfed down our normal morning pastries.  We then went to lunch at the local Taquiria.....full!!!!!  After which they took us shopping for fuel and a few other things..
On the way back they took us out to the south jetty of the Siuslaw River., and guess what....we have pics (imagine that!)

Cousin Mary, of course Barb and Marialice
